try an online golf lesson to improve your game

by Peter Mason

There are a variety of ways you can learn golf and not all require the high cost of a personal golf lesson. Fortunately, there are several ways to effectively acquire golf training and lessons. Online golf lessons are one of many ways to learn golf and, not to mention, one of the most effective ways to gain foundational knowledge, strategies and techniques.

It is relatively easy to find good websites for online golf lessons. With this in mind, you may already have located a user-friendly golf site that offers you access to such online lessons. If not, you should have no problem finding many reputable websites with a variety of means in which to use the lessons.

Online golf lessons can provide useful tips on improving certain aspects of your game. Keep in mind that, at first, most websites provide an overview so you can see the broad picture of golf. But, as you learn more about the game in general you can direct the lessons and information more toward those areas of your game that need specific improvement. This information gained will be more personal to your game and more practical in preparing you for the actual golf round.

You will find valuable information and analysis about your stance as well as effective swinging. Online golf lessons sometimes also devote some time toward the mental aspect of golf since it is, indeed, a competitive sport. Not only are you competing against fellow golfers, but you are also competing against the course and yourself.

Online golf lessons are, usually, offered at no charge and included as part of a golf website. However, some golf lessons must be downloaded and may charge a small amount to download. For such sites, payment is typically made securely with a credit card. Of course, shopping around for reputable and effective lessons is very important, especially if there will be a fee assessed. Taking some time to search for not only quality lessons but also lessons that meet your needs will help you avoid spending unnecessary money and provide you with the most help in those areas needing the most attention.

For those websites that offer golf lessons in a format to be downloaded, you find an abundant amount of information. The information is provided to assess whether or not your computer has the capacity to load the programs as well as the capabilities to present the lessons how they are intended to be viewed.

One main benefit of online golf lessons is that you can spend the time improving your golf skills at your own pace and on your own schedule. You can study, practice and review the material at your own leisure without worrying about getting behind. Once you start to see the benefits of the lessons out on the course, you will likely begin searching for additional lessons to perfect other aspects of your game. Knowing where to find the information and what to expect will make the lessons so much more enjoyable!

Golf For Greenhorns

by Terence Uniacke

There’s something almost primitive about the game of golf. It’s really nothing more than using a club to knock a ball into a hole. So, how come so many beginning golfers still feel intimidated by this very basic sport?

To be fair, there really is a lot for a beginner to learn before he or she can look and feel confident on the green. Playing golf is all about understanding lines and angles, and knowing how to get the ball from point “A” to point “B”. You’ll also need to know about the finer points, like how to stand and even how to swing the club properly. Taking your game from “good” to “great” also requires the ability to putt like a pro.

OK, maybe there really is a lot to learn. Let’s begin with the basics. To play golf, you must hit the ball correctly in order for it to reach its destination. You also need to sink the ball into the hole. Winning the hole means achieving these two steps in fewer swings than your opponents. Your score increases with every stroke, and you don’t want that. The winning golfer is the player with the lowest score.

There are advanced players and professionals who are more than happy to dole out nuggets of golf wisdom to eager beginners. They’ll tell you how and where to stand, where to place your feet and how to hold your club. You can follow the advice of others, as long as you realize that it’s perfectly acceptable to different techniques until you find the best one for you. Each golfer has his or her own tricks for golfing with skill and precision. Don’t expect to mimic each little movement and golf the perfect game.

Despite the best advice and most educated instruction, the best way that you can learn is to get out there and golf whenever you have a free moment. While you may not feel too confident when you look at your scorecard, the only way to get better is to get back out there and keep working on it. Golf for beginners is all about practice.

Both long and short swings must be practiced. The long swings are those that carry your ball from the tee off to the green. These can also be a couple of hundred yards to the next green. Short swings, on the other hand, are those that you’ll make when putting the ball. When you’re on the green, which can be up to ten or fifteen feet wide, you’ll need to hit the ball softly and with as much precision as possible.

Remember that certain environmental factors including the slope of the land, the wind and even the direction of the grass blades may affect your shot. The strength of your short swing will also affect your putt. Practice for every scenario, and you’ll be ready for anything on the green.

Understanding motion is an important aspect of golf for beginners. Watch the motion of those who are playing the hole ahead of you. Study how the ball moves as it’s hit down the fairway, and watch the motion of the golf ball as it bounces and then rolls across the grass. You can see how the ball takes action, and how that action can change without notice.

Use this information and you may find yourself drawn to hitting the ball a little differently. You can alter the motion of the ball and move it more efficiently to the green.

If you’re still a little green about golf, don’t worry. Learning the basics of the game is your first step. Then, just practice, practice, practice. You’ll be the one offering bits of wisdom to newcomers in no time at all.

Quest for card puts May back in play - Globe and Mail- golf swing, golf training

The worst break came on May 18, 2003, when May was on the last hole of the Byron Nelson Championship near Dallas. The PGA Tour gave him a major medical exemption for the 2006 season, when he finished 141st on the money list. It was also too easy to forget that he’d had enough game to beat Colin Montgomerie in a playoff for the 1999 British Masters, and that he’d tied for 23rd in the 2000 U. He absorbed the message that he had the game to compete at the highest levels, and, at least that one time, against golf’s superstar of superstars. He tied for 47th at the Canadian Open in July, and in mid-October shot 63 in the first round of the Frys.

golf swing, golf training - Lousy weather doesn’t derail Green Valley Golf Expo - Green Valley News

But despite yesterday’s inclement weather, the first Green Valley Golf Expo went off without a hitch and put smiles on the faces of the hundreds of golf enthusiasts who filtered in and out of Torres Blancas Golf Club. On the driving range, participants could try out any of the 2008-model Cobra and Titleist drivers and irons on display. With nearly half of his clients looking to improve their golf games, Romney helps them to increase their range of motion, making for less painful trips to the golf course—both on the scorecard and on the body. Footjoy, on the other hand, took advantage of the soggy conditions and sold golfers on the benefits of their new “Dryjoy” model. After spending most of the morning to make sure the expo ran smoothly, Elias teed up some range balls and let it fly with the new equipment on display.

golf swing, golf training - Golf Roundup Nicklaus Stowed Clubs to Play Other Sports - New York Times

Along with a record 18 professional major titles and a PGA Tour career that spanned four decades, perhaps one of the most remarkable tributes to the consistent greatness of Jack Nicklaus was that he withdrew from only two tournaments. Even when he was at Ohio State , Nicklaus said he would put the clubs away after the golf season and play intramural football, basketball and volleyball. Throw out the majors and replace them with opposite-field events (when applicable), and the total would have been $1,780,875 to finish 48th on the money list. Chopra reached the final round of Q-school on the European Tour, and the second stage of Q-school on the PGA Tour. It was a huge risk; had he not advanced and earned a card through the PGA Tour’s Q-school, he would have essentially had nowhere to play in 2002.

golf swing, golf training - Golf swing tip: Focus on left arm for solid shots - WorldGolf.com

When a wide arc is established at the top of the swing, the player is now able to drop their arms in the correct position on the downswing which allows the left arm to release through impact and fold correctly on the follow-through. The left arm folding on the follow-through keeps the club on the correct plane and the ball on the target line. A high-handicapper that collapses his left arm at the top of the swing is now out of position and has to throw the club from the outside on the downswing. From this position he tries to save the shot by extending the left arm on the follow-through, once again, the opposite of what one should do, resulting in the dreaded chicken wing follow-through where the elbow points up instead of down destroying the radius of the circle.

Golf fitness is today’s reality, however the future of golf is really incorporating the missing components of golf performance enhancement through the blend fusion of sports specific fitness and conditioning, nutrition/supplementation and mental toughness with swing mechanics”. Daniel continues, “I see so many teaching professionals pull a student and their club into position while teaching, when in reality, the student simply isn’t able to get into the desired position due to their physical limitations whether it is poor flexibility, poor stability and poor mobility through the required joints and muscles used in golf.

golf swing, golf training - how to stay connected - Today’s Golfer

It’s week five in our ‘Golf Tip Of The Week’ series and this week we’re looking at how to stop the flying left elbow in your swing. PGA pro Dan Frost, Swingers golf driving range, gives you a free golf video lesson demonstrating how to keep the left arm connected to the body by using the headcover from your driver. Extend your left arm and the club through towards the target, keeping the headcover squeezed under your arm pit. Practice these moves four or five times slowly until you get the correct sensation of the arms staying close to the body and then take the headcover away and repeat the same swing sensation.
